Class of 2014 combo guard Jenna Burdette of Coolville, Ohio has already chosen Dayton as her college destination. Coach Jim Jabir and his staff will have to decide whether to use the versatile 5-foot-8 guard at the point or off the ball.

Vitals

Name: Jenna Burdette – Grad Year: 2014
Location: Coolville, Ohio – School: Eastern Reedsville
Current Position: SG/PG Projected Position: SG/PG

Strengths

Burdette is a uniquely skilled guard. The JumpOffPlus.com National Report ELITE 60 prospect is comfortable attacking the lane with either hand off of the bounce or knocking down the jumper. There isn’t much offensively that Burdette is not capable of doing to create a shot opportunity for herself or others. On her West Virginia Thunder club team, the four-star guard does an excellent job of picking her spots to take shots or find her backcourt mates, Griffin Dempsey and Mychal Johnson, for open shots. Burdette is deceptive off of the dribble and smooth to the rim making her a difficult player for opposing defenders to guard.

Area To Improve

Like most young players, Burdette hasn’t had to spend a lot of time playing off of the ball with an elite prospect denying her the basketball away from the ball. That should change at the next level. For the future Dayton Flyer, learning how to move constantly without the basketball will be essential to getting her shot off. Burdette is skilled enough to make a quality read based on the screener’s angle and the way that the defender reads that screen will give her the answer to get herself a shot attempt off of it.

The Bottom Line

Burdette is one of the 10 to 15 most talented combo guards nationwide. Armed with a quick release and consistently accuracy off the catch or the bounce, she is a legit scoring threat at the college level. Learning to assert herself at key times will only help her become a player that the whole Atlantic-10 fears night in and night out.
