The Aaliyah Chavez sweepstakes has a winner and that winner is the Oklahoma Sooners. Jennie Baranczyk and her staff added Chavez, the top player in the 2025 class after outlasting the likes of Texas, Texas Tech and many others. The addition should have a huge impact on the program heading to the Sweet 16 this weekend.
Chavez, a Lubbock, Texas, native, has been one of the most prolific offensive players in the country. When you consider OU ranked 5th in scoring offense this season, nationally, and is one of just three Power 4 programs in the top 15 for 3-point attempts, you see the logic in the choice come into play.
The 2025 McDonald’s All-American and 2025 Naismith First Team All-American selection has two club championships from the Nike EYBL circuit with CyFair Elite in 2022 and 2024. She led the EYBL in scoring in 2024 with 22.9 points per game while finishing 3rd in assists at 4.4 per game.
Chavez, a 5-11 guard, will not head to Norman alone. She joins a strong 2025 class of early signees – No. 23 Keziah Lofton of Yukon, Oklahoma, a 5-10 guard and No. 50 Brooklyn Stewart of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a 6-2 forward.
