Turner is a forward with a variety of skills. This weekend she showed her ability to shoot and pass effectively. She works well in the pick and pop action where she can step back and punish defenders for helping off her. She is just as good as a point-forward within the half-court offense where she can look over the defense to find cutter teammates to the bucket. However, Turner showed the willingness to post up smaller guards and use her size to her advantage. If there is an area that she can tighten up heading into the summer months it would be working on her shot preparation. Getting her shot out quicker will be important at the game's toughest moments. The key with this is not "shooting quicker," but getting ready to shoot quicker.
Turner is a wing-forward with length. She plays with aggressiveness on both ends of the floor. She was very good in the ball screen action. She attacked the rim with either hand in the pick and pop action. Proving that she can defend quicker wings will be important in the next year.
Turner possesses the unique, but very valuable quality of being able to defend the paint while stretching the defense with her jumper. In the modern game of basketball coaches are drawn more and more to players with size who have both of these skills. Her size lends well to being able to rebound and alter shots in the paint. Yet her ball skill and shooting touch allow her to pull opposing big players out of the lane. The challenge for Turner will be able to defend opposing wings who are quicker than her with effectiveness. While Turner is not slow-footed, if she can increase her lateral quickness that will giver her even more versatility on the court defensively.
Turner is a versatile player who can play inside and out. She is a player with size and range on her jumper. What makes her even more valuable is her ability to defend her position inside and out. She has good footwork that allows her to move laterally. Add in her length as a 6-1 player and she has a lot of upside moving forward. We would like to see her ball handling tighten up a little more in future evaluations. Working on getting lower and using her body to shield the ball from the defense will help her navigate through tight spaces more efficiently.
Turner is an intriguing prospect given her skill set and length. She is a fundamental player who showed good skill facing the basket. Turner showed the ability to hit the spot up jumper and also was able to shot fake to attack the basket on the closeout. Standing at 6-feet tall, she showed that she was willing to score inside and out as well. Just a sophomore, Turner has plenty of physical maturation left in front of her. When she adds strength, and explosiveness as a result of that, expect Turner's impact to be more pronounced.
