Groot is a forward with size, range and versatility. She showed an overall skill set that impressed our staff. Her ability to face up on the perimeter stretches interior defenders away from the basket where she can take advantage. She showed a nice left-handed drive and score when catching at the top of the key. While she also has range to the arc. The intangibles to Groot’s game are there too. She is a vocal encourager and able to lead her teammates in the right direction. Also, she is an effective reader of screens and has the instincts to create scoring opportunities when she does not have the ball in her hands. While Groot is a mobile front-line player who can play inside and out, she will need to prove her perimeter defense against quicker ball handlers. Proving that she can provide quick help, switch or even hard hedge on ball screens is going to be a critical area for her defensively.
