Deal was slowed down the back half of the school season with an ankle injury that took the better part of four months to heal properly. That has slowed her down some to start the club season but Deal’s tireless work ethic and dedication to improving have her high on my list. She’s been to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Indianapolis and San Francisco to train with our staff. The nation’s No. 7 ranked senior, Deal’s approach to the game will endear her to the Iowa Hawkeye faithful will she arrives in Iowa City. She has the size, skill and game to be effective at any of the three perimeter spots and might be well served as a bigger off guard in college. Time will tell on her collegiate position but one thing is for certain, the opposition will have to work the graveyard shift on a nightly basis to outwork Deal. -- Brandon Clay / @BrandonClayPSB
Deal possesses elite shooting range for a high school prospect reserved for a select few in each graduating class. She holds her followthrough consistently through the ball hitting the net. That helps keep her shot online even out to the 24-25 foot mark. As Deal keeps growing her range, keeping her feet square is of the utmost importance. -- Brandon Clay
I got a chance to train with Deal briefly in Chicago with Sean "Sticks" Smith but that was only a shooting workout before Tournament of Champions started. This Indianapolis session was the first time in 2023 that we've got to work together. The thing I appreciate the most about Deal's game is no skill, drill or breakdown is too elementary for her to lock in. That allows me a chance to really build into what I'd like to see her doing at the end of the workout by starting at square one to start it. She played 1 on 1 against former pro guard Xavier Johnson and got in a rhythm late with the deep 3-pointer. During gameplay the next day, Deal was on it again against classmate Maya Makalusky in a really good battle of two of the junior class top shotmakers. Late in the game, Deal wanted the ball with the game on the line. She was hunting chances to make plays. Like she did last June, Deal was comfortable taking the Caitlin Clark / Damian Lillard walk up 3-pointer. That shot is a separator. Deal can keep growing as a true QB1 putting her teammates exactly where she wants them to go on every possession in the halfcourt. -- Brandon Clay
Deal has played into way into a special place in my evaluation realm over the last 12 months. She was a legitimate No. 1 scoring option on a very good club team while also sharing Point Guard duties too. Deal projects in the same light that Sabrina Ionescu, Kelsey Plum and Sydney Wiese did as high school kids with her production and toughness. All three have played multiple seasons in the WNBA and two of them have found a place amongst the game’s elite. -- Brandon Clay
Deal flew over 2,000 miles one way to train with me last weekend. After getting an offer from Georgia on a visit during the day Friday, Deal came in ready to work. Her bounce, outside range and leadership remind me of Kelsey Plum at the same stage. Deal has the capability to impact the game on both ends and is a leader in that regard. She hit a couple of tough walk up 3-pointers that looked like the ones Jimmy Butler took in Game Seven of the Eastern Conference Finals. Those are tough shots that speak to the time Deal has put in on her skill set. -- Brandon Clay
