Basketball appears to be the sport that Rachel McLimore was destined to play. Her parents introduced her to the round ball when she was just four years old. Although they encouraged her to try other activities, basketball was the sport that stuck.

“I loved basketball,” McLimore said. “I have always been super competitive.”

Her competitive nature combined with her motivation to improve have helped her become the player that she is today.

“I felt early on while playing I was underestimated as a player,” McLimore added. “I was under the radar as a prospect and that motivated me to work harder than everyone else to improve.”

She is no longer an unknown prospect. McLimore earned praise from evaluators at the EBA All-American Camp. Here is Stephen Peck’s evaluation from last September:

McLimore is a wing with a good frame. She has a solid perimeter jumper, but she makes the majority of her plays with her size and effort. Her ability to rebound from her position gives her added value.

McLimore recently reopened her recruitment after being committed to IUPUI.

“I have a lot of schools that are showing interest, which is nice. I am trying to evaluate each school to see which one will fit my needs,” McLimore said.  “A place that has good academics and people that are enjoyable to be around are important to me. Plus finding a situation where I can impact immediately is essential for me selecting a school.”

Most recently she picked up offers from Illinois State and Presbyterian. She attributes a large part of her visibility to playing club ball.

“Playing with the Indy Magic has been very important for my exposure,” McLimore said.  “We play against the very best competition and that helps my game grow more and more.”

The rising senior at Covenant Christian has her sights set on unfinished business during the school season also.

“I want to win a state championship in my senior season,” McLimore added.  “We went to state last year, but came up short.”

The Hoosier State native knows that she did not arrive at this spot by herself. She is quick to point out those who helped her climb the ladder of success and recognition.

“Indy Magic coach Justin Blanding and my parents have been there for me all along the way. My high school coach (Joe Smith) and my trainer (Chris Thomas) have been very instrumental in helping me develop as a player.”

McLimore’s journey is far from over. With her work ethic and focus her best ball is still in front of her.
