Class of 2019 point guard Kaley Shipman of Mountain View, Ark., has put herself on the map early with her play at the Elite Basketball Academy All-American Camp last fall.
Strengths
Shipman is a capable ball handler and scorer for a middle school prospect. Her intelligence to read when and where to deliver the ball to teammates is noteworthy, averaging three assists per game this season. Scoring just over 17 points per game, she is a more than capable shooter when given space. Most importantly for a eighth grader, she gets after it on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 4.2 steals as well. After completing a weekend session with Shipman last fall, Elite Basketball Academy Lead Trainer Christian Simmons remarked that her skill set sets her apart from most in that age group.
Area To Improve
Part of Shipman’s development is still to be determined by how her physical frame develops. While she waits on that piece to come to fruition, working on her weak-hand ball handling and passing will only increase her ability to make plays against elite defenders.
The Bottom Line
Shipman has a world of ability as well as potential given her age coupled with her skill set. She’s a straight-A student who already involved in the Jr. Beta Club. Add in Shipman’s willingness to improve her craft on the hardwood and it appears that we’ll be talking about her for years to come.
