Rickard was one of the more talented underclassmen in the camp. Her ability to create off the dribble made our staff take notice. She did a great job of attacking the lane with either hand. She hits the lane with confidence. It is apparent that Rickard is a player who is well trained in the advanced fundamentals of the game. She also has the athleticism and explosiveness to create plays versus most defenders. She also proved she could hit the jumper off the dribble and the reversal pass. Rickard's effectiveness will increase as she gains more game experience. Increasing her feel for the game and understanding when to make plays and when to defer is critical for her long-term success.
Rickard is a super skilled guard who is confident enough to play either guard spot effectively. She is an effective handler and a capable shot maker. If there is an area that Rickard could polish up, it is her release point on her jump shot. At times it comes out a bit low, which makes her shot a bit flat rather than having the ideal arc on her shot. – Coach Hemi
Back for a second time, Rickard showed the type of growth that I would have projected in her game this time last year. She’s got a calm, steady demeanor at the point with the skill set and speed to make life hard for defenders. Add that to her willingness to do whatever is needed on both ends and Rickard has all the ingredients to keep cooking the opposition. At times, Rickard must slow down due to seeing so much of the game at once to make and complete the right read. – Brandon Clay
Rickard is still developing physically but has all the tools to be a high level guard. She sees the floor, can handle the ball and make the right read. Continuing to understand where, why and when to make a play will only enhance her current skill set package. Rickard wasn’t intimated at all by going against players three to four years her senior in the session.
Rickard is a 5'3 guard in the 2023 class with an impressive ball-hansdling skillset and floor presence at the point guard position. She really puts together a crafty shift with her dribble on the floor and while some of her decision-making needs to assimilate to the pace of play, she is immersing herself in competitive 8th grade basketball and holding her own. As time goes on, her strength will really play a huge impact on her game, but she already does so many things well like keep her head up when she is being pressured with the ball and makes elite reads in transition. She had a sweet finger roll layup in the half court all the way at the basket that was really nice too. Going forward, areas of improvement for her will be improving her footspeed and not forcing passes when she is running the point guard position. She has good tact and handle at the top of the key, but she has to improve on her decision making and having patience to let plays develop, especially when she is playing up a couple grade levels. Overall, Rickard has a great upside and is going to be a fun guard to continue to watch grow.
