NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- The Showcase of Rising Stars provided over 80 players a chance to showcase their talents in front of our staff and receive skill instruction from one of the nation’s top trainers, Sean “Sticks” Smith. Here is the second recap from the showcase.

Jackie Young (Princeton, Ind) - Princeton HS - 2016

Young’s game has evolved since our first evaluation during the summer of 2011. She followed up a solid performance at Elite Basketball Academy camp in the fall with a stellar showing here. Now standing 6 feet 1, she has both the size and ball skill to be a bigger small forward. Young has established herself as one of the top players regionally, if not nationally, in the freshman class.

Because of her potential, Young already has scholarship offers from multiple BCS football conference schools including Indiana, Louisville and Notre Dame. Here, Young is starting to show moments of stringing the potential together into consistent perimeter production. In one sequence, she caught the ball on the arc and attacked the lane to score, got a steal on the defensive end and pushed the basketball the length of the floor to hit a 15-foot jump shot.

SPOTLIGHT PLAYERS?

Darby Foresman (Indianapolis, Ind.) - Heritage Christian HS - 2016

Like Young, Foresman already has multiple scholarship offers and for good reason. We saw her during the high school season and the 6-4 post prospect didn’t have the same type of impact as she did here. Her touch around the rim and facing the basket are definite points in her favor. She runs the floor and affects shots on the interior. Over the next six months, we see Foresman focusing on her consistency, posting hard and moving her feet to catch, then score on the low block.

Victoria Gaines (Merrillville, Ind.) - Merrillville HS – 2015

Gaines has recovered nicely from a knee injury that sidelined her for most of the 2012 season. The 6-2 forward is back and playing like an ELITE 60 Watch List prospect in the sophomore class. At one point, Gaines caught a pass in the post then read the defensive double team to make the correct skip pass to her teammate for the open 3- pointer. The time away from the floor makes her upside and play here today that much more appealing.

AROUND THE RIM

Peyton Fallis is a skilled wing who earned an invite to the Elite Basketball Academy Super 64 Camp in June with her play here. She knocked down the open jumper and was in the right place at the right time over and over again.

Sydney Hall has become one of the state’s better point guards showing that she’ll push the tempo and make the correct shot or pass read off of the fast break. Hall plays alongside both Fallis and Foresman during the high school season.

Tyana Robinson is a bigger wing with the ability to put the ball in the basket from the inside or outside. She made an impression with her size and skill, even hitting a deep 3-pointer from 24 feet.

Mason Vanhouten should be a name that we mention several more times over the coming years. Vanhouten showed well during the second session displaying ballhandling ability of a much older prospect.
