This week Kylee Shook of Colorado Springs, Colo., became the first player in the 2016 class to give a verbal commitment to Louisville. The 6-foot-4 post comes on the heels of a five-player class in 2015 that was ranked the top class in the nation.
Shook, who chose Louisville over several finalists, including Colorado and Washington, will bring mobility and length to the Cardinal’s frontcourt. She is one of the class’ premier shot blockers and possesses a strong face up game.
Shook will not be alone in the post as part of head coach Jeff Walz’s celebrated 2015 class includes Erin DeGrate of Waco, Texas, a 6-5 center. In some lineups Louisville may actually be able to play the two together with Shook’s agility and range allowing her to play the high post and DeGrate’s strength and frame excelling in the low post.
The post position could potentially transition from an area of need to one of great depth depending on how Louisville uses its projected three remaining scholarships in 2016. The program has been linked to the recruitment of No. 1 player in the country, Lauren Cox of Flower Mound, Texas, as well as No. 3 Tori McCoy of Chicago, Ill. Both are talented interior players as well.
