Lauren Jackson is a long wing whose blend of size and fluid athleticism stands out on both ends of the floor. Jackson runs the floor with purpose and showed a smooth gather when she gets downhill, using her frame to overpower defenders on her way to a clean six-foot pull-up. She flashed touch on a rhythm catch-and-shoot three that had good form despite coming up short, and her voice was a constant presence from the opening minutes, directing teammates and setting a tone as a vocal leader on both ends. Her strength and length bother opponents on the perimeter defensively. Sharpening her lateral quickness is the next step in her development, which will allow her physical tools to translate into more consistent on-ball defense.
Watching Jackson’s game on film for the first time is impressive. It’s easy to see why she was a First Team All-Conference selection during her freshman school season. Jackson has an array of skills and is truly a powerful threat offensively. There aren’t many inside the state of Arkansas who can match her physicality on the hardwood. Jackson can face up on the perimeter, attack the lane then change direction to finish over her opponent. She is comfortable using either a spin move or an up -and-under in gameplay inside the paint. During the next 12-month cycle, look for Jackson to continue building on her ability to keep the floor spaced with her outside shooting. Jackson showed this summer that’s an area of her game where she can be effective during high level game play. Expect her to keep growing in her shooting percentage from beyond the arc. – Brandon Clay / @BrandonClayPSB
