SUWANEE, Ga The Elite Basketball Academy Super 64 Camp hosted by Peach State Basketball is a staple of quality basketball play in the Southeast during the month of June. The camp features the nations largest individual assembly of talent during this month, combining precision skill training for all players who attend with highly competitive game play throughout. The level of prestige for this invitation-only camp attracted players from 30 states this past weekend. Here is a look at four players who travelled from out of region to Suwanee Sports Academy for this esteemed event.
Toree Thompson (Broken Arrow, Okla.), Broken Arrow High School 2014
Toree Thompson
EBA camps provide the stage for relatively unknown players to make a name for themselves. For many observers at Super 64, this was their first time at getting a glimpse of this 5-foot-8 scoring guard. Thompson immediately caught our staffs eye with her decisive ability to create off the dribble. The left-handed combo guard blends strength and explosiveness with the ball in her hands, which makes her a difficult match up for most perimeter defenders. A natural competitor, it was evident that winning the camp games was important for Thompson. Many college coaches will want to track the whereabouts of this budding star heading into the month of July.
Sam Trammel (Minnetonka, Minn.), Eden Prairie High School 2015
Sam Trammel
Trammel embodies everything that most basketball fans would want out of a power forward. Her strength on the defensive glass and her offensive presence in the lane make her a centerpiece on nearly any squad. What was impressive for us to see in game play was Trammels ability to play in the two-man game system with a play-making guard. She creates mismatch opportunities because of her ability to set solid screens while also being a threat to score the ball. Look for the 6-1 forward to be an ELITE 100 prospect in the 2015 class.
Katie Simon (Findlay, Ohio), Liberty Benton High School 2015
Katie Simon
At 6-1, Simon possesses ideal height for a bigger wing in a perimeter based offense. However, what separated Simon during game play at camp were the multiple three pointers that she knocked down from beyond the arc. Her picture perfect release from long range gives her a consistency that all coaches are looking for in a long range specialist. Simon did more than shoot this weekend as she dove after loose balls and played hard on the defensive end. The Midwest native plays for the All-Ohio organization during the summer months. Her club coach, Jay Bee Bethea, will undoubtedly look to use Simon as added depth on his top team during July.
Joyce Harrell (Seattle, Wash.), Cleveland High School 2015
Joyce Harrell
Harrell caught our staffs attention by purely playing hard in game play. She was productive on the glass and consistently made hustle plays in traffic. Standing at 6-1 she has the size to play on the block, but her footwork allows her to be a mobile presence amongst bigger defenders. She made a splash during the camp games by scoring several buckets in traffic. Long-term we see her as a 4 player who will fit perfectly into a two-post offensive system. Her energy and activeness make her an appealing prospect moving into the future. Follow @JLHemingwayPSB
