LEBANON, Tennessee -- For the fourth year in a row, CoachHemi.com hosted a Spring camp before the travel basketball season kicks off. The emphasis of the camp was getting better. Camp coaches put players through drills that required IQ and mastery of skills. This also proved to be an opportunity for players to get the highest level of exposure in a non-viewing period weekend. Click the hashtag on twitter, #CoachHemiWorkout, for highlights, pictures and standouts from the weekend. Below are the players who made the biggest impression at Lebanon High School.
Annaliese Burnett (Arlington, Tennessee), Faith Heritage Christian – 2018
Although the camp featured many prospects who were familiar to the evaluators on hand, there were a handful of new names that emerged by the end of the day. Burnett, a 5-foot-8 guard, showed herself to be a skilled athlete with size to make plays amongst the best athletes in the camp. Her tight handles and motor allowed her to create space for her jumper in the half court. She proved that she can score the ball both off the drive and off the jumper. She will play for Team Slink on the travel circuit this season.
Ashlee Harris (Louisville, Kentucky), Sacred Heart Academy – 2019
Harris exerted herself as not only one of the better guards at the camp, but also one of the best performers on this day. Her ball skill and shot making ability allowed her to score points and make plays for others with high efficiency. She is equally effective in transition as she is in the half court setting. Her array of dribble moves kept the defense off balance, which opened the doors for numerous points in game play. She will play with Kentucky Premier this season.
Dylann Claybrook (Murfreesboro, Tennessee), Riverdale HS – 2020
Claybrook exerted herself as the most dominant interior presence at the camp. Standing at 6-1 she has the size and strength to move people around on the interior. However, it is her soft touch that allows her to score consistently even when closely guarded. Claybrook’s footwork to defend the pick and roll and her ability to run the floor makes her a versatile option that will lead to future production.
Hannah Edgeston (Murfreesboro, Tennessee), Riverdale HS – 2019
Edgeston is a great example of how hard work can show up in a short few months. After a solid initial showing at the Coach Hemi Fall Workout in October, the 5-7 combo guard came back this time and hung tough with the best in the gym. She worked hard to get in great physical shape during the high school season and it is paying dividends now. Edgeston is a quick defender who is great at getting into the passing lanes and harassing ball handlers. She showed to be just as effective at attacking the bucket with the ball in her hands. She appears to be just scratching the surface of her potential as she heads into the spring with the Tennessee Flight.
Kelsie James (Jeffersonville, Indiana), Jeffersonville HS – 2020
Just one weekend after a strong showing at the #EBATop40 camp in Atlanta, James followed up that effort with an equally strong showing this weekend. Her motor is what caught the attention of evaluators and coaches. She seems to play hard consistently while making plays on both ends of the court. At 5-foot-3 her natural spot on the court is at the point guard position. Yet she is just as dangerous as a shooting guard, because of her accurate jump shooting ability. She displayed nice touch from the arc and can puncture the defense with the drive. She also will play with Kentucky Premier during the travel season.
Around the Rim
Class of 2019 guard Jayla Hemingway of Collierville, Tennessee, showed why she is a top ten prospect in her class nationally. She scored the ball in a variety of ways while also showing an improved willingness to dish to her teammates.
The Hoosier state was well represented by the Tomlinson sisters of Salem, Indiana. Class of 2020 Hope Tomlinson and class of 2022 Macie Tomlinson showed their fundamental skill and sharp shooting abilities. Both have basketball in their blood and will continue to improve as they mature.
Class of 2020 point guard Yasmin Ott of North Little Rock, Arkansas, is an intriguing prospect. She has unmatched speed in the full court and displayed a jumper that connected at a high percentage on this weekend.
There was plenty of good point guard play in the building with the likes of class of 2020 prospects Kenady Atkins of Gleason, Tennessee, and Claire Wyatt of Knoxville, Tennessee. Both are confident ball handlers who can hit open shots and dish to their teammates.
