DePetro's skill and footwork really showed well during this camp. She proved to be a guard who can set up her teammates with the pass. She also was able to get downhill with the dribble and be a space creator from the lead guard position. Given her size and skill DePetro should be a tough match-up for many guards in the back court. As good as DePetro is becoming as a creator, we still would like to see her as a shot maker especially from behind the arc. Finding that balance will be important for her.
Brandon Clay compared DePetro to former UT-Chattanooga standout Taylor Hall the first day of camp. DePetro's combination of size, skill and poise certainly compares favorably to Hall. DePetro's greatest asset is her passing ability. She has good vision and can deliver the ball to teammates effectively. She is a good shooter, but her best shot is her pull-up jumper after she makes an initial move towards the bucket. As advanced as DePetro's skill set is, she still could improve other parts. Especially moving without the basketball. In this setting, DePetro tended to float when the ball was not in her hands. Learning how to move off of screens or set screens to get the ball moving will help round out her game.

DePetro's jumper looks really smooth these days. She shoots it well off the move and has a high release, which keeps her accurate. DePetro's skills are not limited to just being a shooter, because she is a very good passer and is willing to post up smaller defenders. Although Evie is a good position defender, her feet are a bit slow. Working on maximizing her lateral quickness will be important especially as she transitions to becoming a full time point guard. Being able to defend her position will be essential.
DePetro had a good showing at the All-American Camp in September. She has exceptional size for her position, but combines that with a solid skill set. Her ball handling and ability to play in transition made her a standout among the 2020 group. Her vision with the pass is what stuck out during game play. Continuing to add layers to her game and demonstrating that she can hit the open jumper will add value to her stock.
