Stanley once again displayed steady fundamentals and willingness to play hard at the Austin camp. Although young and still years from realizing her physical potential, the guard is willing to stick her nose into the fray and fight for loose balls and wrestle rebounds away from the bigger players on the court. When it comes to playing the game with the ball in her hands, Stanley displayed a maturity that is a marked improvement for our last evaluation. She played the game with more pace and showed that she did not always have to be in high gear in order to evade defenders. This is a good sign. The next step for her will be to take that pace and turn that into playmaking capabilities. Having the mindset of knowing where to go and getting there efficiently will be the sign that she is climbing the ladder of being a lead guard.
Stanley is a guard with a confident, spirited demeanor. Although a bit on the small side of stature, she makes up with her aggressiveness and coachability. Her ability to lead teammates with vocal commands makes us believe she will be a future floor general for many years to come.. Gaining more confidence with her weak hand is an area she should look to improve as she climbs the ranks of competition.
Stanley was the youngest player at the camp, but she did not let the big stage overwhelm her. She proved herself as a capable ball handler and as a player who can handle herself in competitive situations. Even when she did not have the ball in her hands she found ways to move and get open on the wing or in the lane. Her willingness to spring the floor in transition also opened up more opportunities for her and her team. It will be important for Stanley to stay in the gym and keep adding pieces to her game. However, as it stands right now she has a great foundation to build upon.
