Cavanaugh Picks Cal

This week the California women’s basketball team added an athletic guard to its backcourt when the Bears went across country to secure a verbal commitment from 5-foot-6 guard Breanna Cavanaugh of Hackettstown, N.J. Cavanaugh, who picked Cal over Syracuse and North Carolina State, will be able to attack the basket off the bounce and guard multiple backcourt positions for the PAC-12 school.

Cavanaugh, an ELITE 150 Watch List prospects, will join fellow class of 2015 prospect Kristen Anigwe of Phoenix, Ariz., as the second piece to Cal’s 2015 recruiting class. Anigwe, a 6-4 post player, gives head coach Lindsay Gottlieb an athletic post with a good bit of upside to develop around the rim, while Cavanaugh gives them a multipurpose guard who can fit in with their style of play.

The early 2015 combination of Cavanaugh and Anigwe gives Cal two four-star recruits for this recruiting class and should put them in the discussion for an early top 10 recruiting class when we start class rankings later in the spring. In its 2014 class, Cal has the No. 7 ranked class in the country, having secured signatures from Gabby Green of Oakland, Calif., and Mikayla Cowling of Benica, Calif.

Norris to Southern Illinois

A 5-11 class of 2014 wing, Micah Norris of Murfreesboro, Tenn., ended her recruitment this week and decided to pick Southern Illinois over Seton Hall, Chattanooga, and Middle Tennessee. Norris, who was one of the highest rated uncommitted prospects remaining in the class of 2014, is a big wing who has really developed her game over the last two years. She is a long and rangy wing with the ability to be a more than capable defender in college. Offensively she will have to continue to develop her skill set but should find some success as she makes the adjustment to the next level and adds strength to her thin frame.

Bozeman To Furman

Sydney Bozeman of Dublin, Ga., gave her verbal pledge to Furman last week. The 6-3 post chose the school for its coaching staff and academics, according to her father, Skip. The two-star prospect is the first commitment for Furman in the 2015 class.
