WNBA Draft Watch: Nia Coffey

WNBA Draft Watch: Nia Coffey
WNBA Draft Watch

Currently ranked the No. 3 prospect overall on the 2017 WNBA Draft Board, Nia Coffey has had a stellar college career at Northwestern posting over 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds already. On the 2016-17 season, Coffey is averaging a double-double with 19.5 points, 10.6 rebounds per through 27 games.

She’s only shooting at a 42 percent clip from the field and 29 percent from beyond the arc. Both of those are areas for improvement as she heads for the pro ranks this summer. In theory, her percentages will rise as a byproduct of seeing less double teams and gimmick defenses as Coffey far and away leads Northwestern in points and rebounds. She’s averaging almost twice as many points as the next Wildcat and is close to triple the rebounding output of any of her teammates.

Hansen’s Take

Coffey continues to produce at a high level.  She is one of just 26 players in Division I who is averaging a double-double in points and rebounds.  Of those players Coffey is the highest scorer of the group and nearly 19.5 points per game.  At the next level she will not be counted on to do everything for her team and her ability should allow her to contribute early and often.
