SUWANEE, Georgia – The Brandon Clay Spring Showdown has been an annual staple as teams gear up for the upcoming club season for over 15 years. With teams from as far away as New York, the 2022 edition was no different. Here’s a look at multiple 2023 prospects who came in with their college choices still to be determined:
Originally committed to Georgia before the change last week, Collins is a legit scoring threat at the point spot and got it going on Sunday morning with 30 points in the championship game. She’s a willing distributor who is an elite option in the backcourt for Sean “Sticks” Smith juggernaut. Collins has range out to 23 feet while also showing that she can press up on defense as well. At this moment, she’s one of the Top 5 available prospects nationally at the position.
Diaz was on fire in a big game on Saturday night. She has real range out past the 3-point line and the confidence to let it fly. Diaz is a key piece for Sara Nuxol’s roster this summer.
Kitts will lead her school team into a marquee matchup against Montverde Academy this weekend. Before that, she came to Atlanta to get skill work and play in the AEBL 24 Game. She finished with 36 points in a stellar showing. Kitts is firmly in the conversation as America’s premier hybrid forward and should excel for the All Stars this club season.
Marlo Simms – 6’2” – Post – Georgia - Team Nite Nite – 2023
Simms is a prospect who has legit height and seems to just now be scratching the surface in her progression. Keep an eye on her this spring playing with Tessah Holt’s top team.
Maya Watts – 6’3” – Post – New York - Hoopers NY – 2023
Watts is one of those prospects who sneaks up the ladder as the class progresses. She was major in a marquee matchup on Sunday afternoon against the All Stars giving Dan Melious a post player he can trust.
