Recap: Cy-Fair Eval Camp II

HOUSTON, Texas -- The inaugural Cy-Fair Evaluation Camp brought 100 of the state’s top prospects to Cypress Ridge High School to train and compete. Here are some of the underclass players who stood out.

?

Kennedy Leonard (Southlake, Texas) - Southlake Carroll HS – 2015

In a sophomore class loaded at the guard position, Leonard has established herself as one of the top guards in the Lone Star State. The 5-foot-7 point guard makes an immediate impression with her color coordination on the floor then backs it up with an uncanny ability to find the open player. Though she can score the basketball especially off of the catch and shoot, we see Leonard as a long term pass-first point capable of directing a team.

Right now, Leonard is more than able to beat the majority of guards that she faces, pushing the ball in her hands in the transition to find the open shooter. With some of the schools that have come calling, getting stronger will be a key factor in her development. Also, becoming more and more comfortable with the pull-up jumper is an area that we would expect the four-star point guard to continue to develop as well.

SPOTLIGHT PLAYERS?

Erica Ogwumike (Cypress, Texas) - Cy-Woods HS – 2015

Ogwumike is a powerful scoring guard with a powerful bloodline. Her sisters, Chiney and Nneka, have more than made their mark on the women’s game. Now, Erica, is starting to do the same. At 5-8, she’s got the size to be able to score the basketball, even taking contact to finish in the open floor. Ogwumike scored the ball primarily off of the mid-range jump shot here today, looking good with her form in the process. This will be a big club season as she will be counted on to be a primary player for Cy-Fair Shock.

Erica Sanders (San Antonio, Texas) - Johnson HS – 2015

We’ve seen Sanders play six times in the past 18 months. Her game continues to round out with each evaluation. She’s a 5-9 slashing guard who can get to the rim off the bounce. A Texas Tech commit, the Red Raiders staff has to be excited that Sanders appears to be adding a consistent jump shot to her offensive repertoire. On the defensive end of the floor, she is long and does a good job of keeping drivers in front of her off of the bounce.

AROUND THE RIM

Tiara Davenport of San Antonio, Texas, gets it done on the interior. The class of 2014 power forward had a solid outing here reinforcing our thoughts that she is one of the premier rebounders in the state.

♦ College recruiting has picked up for Nicole Iademarco of The Woodlands, Texas, as of late and for good reason. A class of 2014 wing with good size, Iademarco showed that she is a very capable outside shooter.

♦ Our staff understands that playing hard is definitely a skill set that few players in each class bring to the table. In the class of 2015, Brooke Jolivette of Kingwood, Texas, brings just that every time she plays. Jolivette impressed with her strength and activity on both ends of the hardwood.

♦ Class of 2016 post Nancy Mulkey of Cypress, Texas, is growing into her frame with each evaluation. She’s come along nicely since we saw her at the Fort Bend ISD tournament in mid-November. Mulkey is running the floor well and finishing with touch inside of 12 feet.

♦ Like Mulkey, we saw Kayla Nevitt of Spring, Texas, at the Fort Bend event in mid-November. Nevitt is an active wing who makes a living defending the opposing team’s best offensive player.
