Texas has landed a verbal commitment from class of 2016 forward Jada Underwood of Mesquite, Texas.
Underwood, is a four-star forward who is currently rated as the No. 22 player in the ELITE 60 and the No. 4 forward. Underwood will join class of 2016 point guard Alecia Sutton, as the second member of the class of 2016 to make a verbal pledge to Karen Aston and her staff. The combination of Sutton and Underwood will allow Texas to make an early leap in the ProspectsNation.com 2016 class rankings. Putting them in the discussion as one of the top 10 recruiting classes early in the game.
Underwood has the ability to give Texas depth and athleticism across the frontline. At 5-11 she brings an abundance of energy and effort to the forward positions. She is one of the better one-on-one defenders in the class of 2016 and her offensive game is beginning to come together as well.
Underwood was a member of the 2014 USA Basketball U17 national team trials process in Colorado Springs, Colo., and here is what our ProspectsNation staff had to say about the 2016 prospect:
Underwood is a high level athlete with the ability to play multiple positions at the next level. Her energy and activity allow her to be effective making plays as she doesn’t need to dominate the ball to be effective. In order to make the move to the wing at the next level Underwood will have to continue to develop her ball handling and perimeter shooting as she is a bit of a tweener right now as far as her skill set and size are concerned. As an undersized athletic four player Underwood has the ability to guard players with more size around the basket and potentially be a tough cover on the offensive end but when athleticism is equal her lack of size and perimeter skill set will be a concern. Overall we really like Underwood’s athletic ability and her potential to make an impact with her effort and energy level. If she can make some basic strides in her game she could be an impact college prospect. – May 2014
