Class of 2017 post Loretta Kakala of Calif., flew across the country to visit Louisville. After giving coach Jeff Walz a verbal, she headed back out west a future Cardinal. In Kakala, Walz’ staff gets a legitimate sized post. Per ProspectsNation.com, Kakala is currently the nation’s No. 21 ranked prep. This summer, she is serving as a lynchpin on the inside for the defending Nike Nationals champion Cal Stars.
Chris Hansen’s evaluation of Kakala from the Check Me Out NorCal Showcase in October of 2015:
“Kakala is a strong and vocal power forward that is a floor leader from the front court position. She rebounds tough and keeps the ball high to clear space and make outlet passes up court. Her understanding of how to set hard screens for guards and cut to the basket really makes her ability to impact the game strong.”
The Cardinal have been a major force in recruiting since Walz arrival, most recently posting the No. 1 class nationally in 2015 headlined by Asia Durr of Douglasville, Ga. Durr was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team. Looking forward to the 2017-18 season, Kakala could suit up alongside Durr for two seasons and next to incoming McDonald’s All-Americans, Kylee Shook of Colo., and Ciera Johnson of Duncanville, Texas for three seasons as well.
