Ohio State picked up size and athleticism for its frontcourt this week when 6-foot-5 post Theresa Ekhelar of Woodbridge, N.J., made a verbal commitment to the Big Ten school. Ekhelar, who was recruited by a number of programs including Virginia, Miami, and Penn State, made an unofficial visit to the Big Ten program for elite camp and committed shortly after returning home.
Ekhelar, who is a developing post player and still growing as an offensive contributor, has the potential to be a rim protector early on in her career for coach Kevin McGuff and his Ohio State program. She has long arms and good mobility so recovering and challenging shots shouldnt be an issue for the post prospect. Another area where Ekhelar should look to make an impact at Ohio State is on the offensive and defensive glass. With the offensive talent Ohio State added in its current freshman class, Ekhelar will do well in giving them extra possessions by rebounding the ball at a high rate.
With the addition of a true four-star post player like Ekhelar, Ohio State has kicked off its 2015 class in a big way. Year in and year out there just arent an abundance of post players for schools to go after and by grabbing Ekhelar this early, Ohio State is ahead of the game. Look for the Buckeyes to add another key wing scorer for the 2015 class with players such as Arike Ogunbowale of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Kaylan Pugh of Memphis, Tenn., high on the Big Ten School. An athletic forward could also be an option that the Buckeyes try to pursue this summer. Follow @KeilMoorePSB
