With the early signing period upon us, here’s a look at five classes that have caught my eye so far:
4.
Coming off of the 2019 NCAA National Title, the Bears did not take a day off in recruiting. With Sytia Messer running point for Kim Mulkey’s program, the Big 12 powerhouse locked in on two Pro Skills EYBL teammates, Sarah Andrews and Hannah Guesters. Guesters committed to be the Bears center of the future earlier in the year while Andrews took it all the way down to the wire. In the end, the Bears have a unique pairing of two bookend prospects who could very well be the best in the nation at their positions. The Bears are still in the mix for Hailey Van Lith so this class could still be considered the nation’s best before it’s all over.
9.
Right now, the Beavers have a small class featuring two of the most talked about wing players from the club circuit in Sasha Goforth and Savannah Samuel. Both will bring a length and versatility to the wing for a program that has arguably the most height in the post of any program in modern day history. Scott Rueck and his staff prioritized length and height even on the perimeter and that’s exactly what their two 2020 Elite 100 additions bring.
15.
Cal coach Charmin Smith is in the same league with the aforementioned Beavers and will have to see that size twice annually for years to come. She and her staff countered by adding three frontcourt prospects all with length of their own. All standing 6-foot-3 or taller, Dalayah Daniels, Michelle “Ugonne” Oniyah and Fatou Samb bring varying gifts to the interior. Daniels even has the talent to see extended time facing the rim on the wing as her career progresses. Smith was on staff as an assistant to Lindsay Gottlieb during the days of First-Team All-American Kristine Anigwe in the post for Cal and is looking to unearth an Anigwe-like talent of her own here. Greece resident Ornela Muca gives them a wild card addition in the backcourt as well.
22.
With a new coaching staff, time was of the essence to secure a foundational class. That’s exactly what Nell Fortner and her staff did. They secured post-July verbals from Loyal McQueen and A.C. Carter then tipped into the Midwest for Eylia Love out of Kansas last weekend. Grabbing three Elite 150 recruits is a big deal but Tech might not be done just yet. They are still in the mix for dynamic guard Anaya Boyd as well. Adding Boyd would likely see the Yellow Jackets crack the Top 20 with their inaugural recruiting class.
26.
The staff’s commitment to the slow recruiting grind is a major reason why the Horned Frogs are knocking on the door of the Big 12’s elite. Horned Frogs coach Raegan Pebley and her crew have done it again so far with this class adding two in-state Elite 150 pieces in Aja Holmes and Aaliyah Morgan. With the pledge of Adhel Tac, they have another right on the verge of being deemed in that same grouping. Add in the pledge of backcourt threat Amari Conn from Missouri and Pebley’s crew seems poised to keep heading in the right direction.
