Santos played on a big stage this weekend and brought A-1 effort. She is a high energy player who handles the ball effectively. She showed a nice crossover move versus pressure while also distributing to her teammates with the pass. Santos next step will be to tighten up her decision making. Balancing her energy with making the easy play will be key.
Santos is a talented ball handler who can back dribble out of pressure or push the ball in transition. She did a good job of getting the ball out quickly in transition and using hesitation moves to keep defenders off balance. Defensively she showed great instincts by getting into the passing lanes and creating turnovers. Her quickness and feel for the game proves that she can become a solid two-way player moving forward. The area that we did not see in this setting was her jump shot. She will need to prove on a consistent basis that she can hit shots from distance to keep defenders off balance.
Santos is a 5-foot-5 guard in the 2021 class that had a great debut showing at the Check Me Out SoCal. She has a developing skill set in the guard position that was very skilled on the floor and she showed that she can be a leader that can navigate the offense. On the perimeter, she knocked down a couple 3-pointers and with more strength, she will be able to make that a consistent part of her attack. In drill work, she showed a hard working mentality and was pushing herself in the ball handling drills. Going forward, she can look to develop more assertiveness and continue to develop her midrange game. She is showing the court savvy to be a great facilitating guard, but having that scoring mentality and being able to knock down the midrange with balance will be huge for her development. Defensively, she is a good on-ball defender and can look to develop more anticipation skills, so she can get easy buckets the opposite direction, which is huge for a guard, floor leader on the court.
