Martin was a new name who emerged at the Coach Hemi Fall Workout in October. The 5-7 combo guard exhibited qualities you want from a contributing back court player. She handled the ball well and showed tremendous court sense. She seemed to make the right play and the right time consistently. Her defensive awareness was on point as well where she could provide help and quickly recover to her man. On top of that, she hit jumpers off the catch and the bounce. Martin is not slow by any accounts, however there are players that are quicker than her at that position. Working on developing her lateral quickness as much as possible will help her in the future. Making a goal to be able to defend either guard position would make her an asset as a two-way player.
Martin is a young point guard with a natural feel for the game. She has good handling skills that allow her to distribute the ball to her teammates or attack the lane with either hand. She has a good first step and showed a nice burst with the ball in the open court. She is still maturing with her skills and physicality at this point, so she still has room to grow in the game. In that time she will need to work on adding range on her jumper to the arc. She has good technique, but her lack of strength makes it hard for her to be consistent at this point. Also working on passing with either hand will help her enhance her distributing skills.
