Gwin is a 5'6 guard in the 2019 class that has coined herself as a strong shooting specialist. At first, she didn't force too many opportunities and looked to facilitate more offensively, but then she found some space on the perimeter and hit fire. She showed she has a quick trigger and can really score in bunches form beyond the arc when she sees daylight. With a shot that looked that good this past weekend, she should make a stronger effort to find open spaces on the floor to spot up and get consistent looks at the basket. Defensively, she stays infront guarding the on-ball, but would like to see her get in the mix and grab more logo rebounds. Going forward, adding more assertiveness and a consistent 1-2 dribble pull-up in the midrange will improve her impact offensively. With her sharp shooting ability, establishing that command early on will allow to her to get more looks at the rim and force defenses to close out on her hard. Once that happens, being able to score the 1-2 dribble pull-up off the bounce would be a great counter attack for her. Overall, Gwin was fun to watch on the perimeter and love watching her play when she is being opportuntistic.
Gwin competes at a high level. She’s an extra effort kid who gets the most out of her abilities. She’s a pretty strong outside shooter and can handle the ball efficiently from the guard position, although adding a little more effectivess getting to the paint for opportunities to score at the rim, or dish to scorers will be key for her. She can improve on her defense and round out her game by working on staying in an athletic stance and not standing too tall on the court but getting low, ready to move her feet and anticipate. Overall, Gwin is only a 2019 and is developing her skill set well which pairs good with her willingness to compete on the floor.
