Santiago is an intriguing athlete with length and a quick first step. She showed the ability to turn the corner to make plays with the dribble. She also kept her eyes up to find open teammates on the court. This is an important skill for a wing player because it shows that she can be more than simply a slasher and scorer. Santiago’s jumper continues to show progress as she becomes more comfortable in firing up shots beyond the 3-point arc in an array of situations. The area that could immediately help her game turn a corner is becoming more comfortable finishing with her off hand in the lane. Focusing on this skill should be more of a priority than trying to add any other moves to her game.
Santiago is a wing with a lanky frame and an all-around skill set. She showed a nice midrange game with a pull up jumper and handling in traffic. Her willingness to do a little bit of everything is a quality that will pay off in the future. She can defend, rebound, pass, run the offense, finish in transition, etc. They key for her reaching her potential will be through physical maturation. Becoming stronger and more explosive are areas that will enhance the rest of her game.
Santiago showed off the tools to be a factor on the wing. She's 5-9 but has a lot of length in her frame to play longer. She excelled at beating closeouts off the catch. As her footwork improves and she gains confidence in catch and shoot situations, she will be that much tougher to guard. She was highly coachable and adjusted things quickly when taught. There is a lot of physical and athletic upside to kep an eye on over the next few years.
