Pawlyshyn displayed many of the skills to excel in the back court at the next level during the Check Me Out Showcase in Ames. She is a sneaky skilled guard who can read the floor with the ball in her hands or while working off screens. She moved quickly and instinctually off screens in competition segments of the camp. She also showed polished footwork to create angles to score and pass when she got caught in traffic. Her ability to pass the ball with either hand is another plus with her skill set. She can deliver the ball quickly to her teammates on target. Add in Pawlyshyn’s range to the arc on her jumper, on the spot up and off the move, and she has a well-balanced skill set. We would like to see the sophomore guard become louder and more vocal when she hits the floor. This skill is important for her to become the leader that she is supposed to be. – Coach Hemi
Pawlyshyn has a lot of potential as a lead handler. Her poise as a ball handler while under pressure was particularly noticeable in gameplay when Aaliyah Smith (WI-22) hounded her consistently. Smith is one of the elite guards nationally and could very well end up as one of the top on-ball defenders in her class. Regardless, Pawlyshyn was undeterred and proved she could get the ball across the half line and enter the ball to the wing without a mistake. Pawlyshyn is listed at 5-8, but she has limbs that make her appear to be even taller than her listed height. So there is potential for her physically to mature into a player that is even more impactful as she gets older. She was also competent as a perimeter shooter. Her quick release and high follow through allowed her to hit jumpers on a consistent basis. If there is an area that Pawlyshyn should look at as a place to build, it would be her play-making skills. She showed she could handle the ball without making mistakes, however proving that she can make a play herself or a teammate when her team needs a bucket is the next step in her development.
