Mooney is a player we’ve had for years at camp and this was the second time in 2024. Seeing her adjust to high school competition we got to see what has translated from her early years with us. We loved how she kept the game simple this weekend. In the past she could overpower smaller defenders off the dribble and as those matchups weren’t as numerous, she just made smart plays. She still worked her tail off and made an impact as a big guard who rebounds. If she leans into her smarts on the floor she’ll find more and more success. The patience she has on the floor we’re looking for her to add that to the end of her drives to find success.
Mooney possesses solid size as a perimeter player with a strong build, consistently getting paint touches where she displays crafty finishes and handles contact well. She's adept at catch-and-shoot jumpers and demonstrates a keen awareness of flow and spacing on the floor. Mooney has the physical attributes and a budding skill set that make her a promising prospect. As she continues her development, it will be important for her to find ways to be more confident and aggressive offensively, allowing her to fully capitalize on her potential.
Mooney stands out as a bigger guard/wing for her age group. She attacks the basket with authority. Her assertiveness is matched by her ability to finalize drives with effective post-ups, showcasing her versatility. She's adept at the catch-and-shoot three-pointer and demonstrates keen awareness by constantly repositioning to optimize her long-range shooting opportunities. While her movement off the ball is a strength, she sometimes shows her inexperience as she searches for her rhythm and role within the team dynamic. However, it's clear that with continued play and skill refinement, Mooney's physicality and foundational talents form a promising base for a bright future.
Mooney is a smart, savvy guard who possesses strong fundamentals. She is a solid decision maker, and will make the occasional play. She finds her teammates on the pass. Her talent is really knowing that balance as a guard, of when/where to push and where to play things under control.
