ATLANTA - In its’ inaugural season, Overtime Select came out of the gate with the premier lineup in high school girls basketball. The list of attendees was a who’s who amongst the top players in the grassroots game today. Here’s a look at some thoughts of the top performers from my courtside seat on Championship Weekend.

It’s only right that the League MVP leads off the article. Harpring has been on an ascent over the last 12 months that the game has not seen in years if ever. Her play here solidified her standing as a Top 3 ranked prospect in the next few weeks as various outlets re-rank the junior class projections. Harpring plays both ends of the floor with an incredible work ethic whether she has the basketball in her hands or not. She scored 19.5 points per game earning Player of the Game honors in the Semis and Finals MVP in the process.
Double Dynasty was in such a zone during the title game that Crump didn’t even play in the fourth quarter. The future Texas Longhorn made a real impact in the first three giving her team timely play after timely play. She’s more than just a shooter though her shot making ability separates her from a lot of her peers.
We might have gotten a glimpse of what Flemings will be at the next level on Sunday. Her ability to make shots and defend Harpring caught the attention of everyone on media row. Flemings kept Harpring from getting an easy basket which is much easier said than done. On the offensive end, Flemings showed range out past the 3-point line and a willingness to rebound too.
For good reason, there’s a good bit of basketball breakdown available about Mya’s twin sister, Mia. But to leave Mya’s presence throughout the weekend out would be a mistake. Mya showed herself as a legitimate option flying around the basketball in what was an elite level championship game. The future Tennessee Lady Vol brings a mix of energy, speed and shot making ability to the roster next season.
For now, Smith stands alone as the premier prospect in the sophomore class. Her ability to go pound-for-pound with anyone was on full display again. Smith is a legitimate outside shooter with range to 25 feet. Her passing is as good as any prospect in the game at the high school level today regardless of class. She had 12 assists to go with just two turnovers in the Semi Final win on Saturday.
