ATLANTA, Georgia – The Brandon Clay All-American Showcase for Middle School players to take center stage. We offered a spotlight training session ahead of the start of the sessions. Here are the first takeaways from that workout:
Thompson is a true sniper from the outside. She gets in zones where the basket seems wide as the ocean. For a middle school prospect who is scoring 30 plus points in JV games, Thompson actually has plenty of room to grow her outside shot still. She could be a player capable of hitting deep 3-pointers in transition off the bounce before she leaves high school like Caitlin Clark from Iowa is doing now.
This was our second time with Bowman in just two weeks. Her willingness to make whatever tweaks necessary to be a great shooter was noteworthy in both sessions. She has such a unique combination of size, skill and versatility that it’s going to be hard to for defenses to key in on her jumper. The more shots Bowman can make, the tougher it is to contain the other pieces of her game.
Gabby Middleton (Stoughton, Massachusetts), 2027
Like Bowman, Middleton has the size and power at an early age to make good things happen downhill off the dribble. That said, Middleton’s game will flourish in high school as her 3-pointer opens up driving lanes. Very few school teams will be able to contest her outside shot then keep her in front of them off the dribble as well.
Maryn King (Maple Valley, Washington), 2026
King flew all the way over from Seattle to work on her craft. She’s an outstanding catch and shoot prospect at her age. That said, putting the ball on the floor for a bounce to pull up will help elevate her game at the high school level a year from now. There’s no question that she is going to put the time in on her game to add that piece to her in game repertoire.
Wells excels right now in the open floor. A long, rangy forward, Wells has all the tools to be a nice option from the midrange and beyond the arc as well. Look for her mechanics to continue to sharpen over the next 12 months. When Wells elbow is tucked under the ball, good things happen with her shot as a result of that mechanics shift.
