Thursday, Michigan State picked up its third verbal commitment from the 2016 class when Nia Hollie of Minnetonka, Minn., made a verbal pledge to the Big Ten school. Hollie picked Michigan State over Minnesota, after the 5-foot-10 wing made official visits to both programs.
For Michigan State the addition of Hollie gives the Spartans athleticism and offensive fire power from the wing positions. Hollie has the potential to be a key offensive contributor in college and throughout her prep career has proven that she can carry the scoring load if need be. As the No. 25 ranked player in the ELITE 100 for the class of 2016, Hollie is a big puzzle piece for Michigan State. Her addition gives them an elite prospect in the class but it also allows them to secure one of the few elite wings in a class that is thin at that position.
Joining Hollie on campus at in East Lansing next year will be 5-5 point guard Taryn McCutcheon of Parkersburg, W.Va., and 6-0 forward Mardrekia Cook of Muskegon, Mich. Look for Michigan State’s class to make a leap in the class rankings when updates are released later this month.
