At 6 feet 2, Oberg already possesses the size and footwork needed to be effective on the interior. She showed at the Elite Basketball Academy Super 64 Camp that she is capable of finishing the basketball around the rim. The versatile post used multiple footwork moves to create and score the basketball during the camp. In the process, she earned an invite to the EBA All-American Camp. Oberg also displayed a nice touch facing the rim as well knocking the open jump shot out to 15 feet. She played varsity basketball as a seventh grade and was able to average eight points and seven rebounds per contest. Energy and effort are already hallmarks of her game as she showed a willingness to rebound the ball in the paint. Her soft hands allow her to catch almost every ball that comes her way.
Area To Improve
Going forward over the next 12 months, Oberg will have to continue to develop her left hand around the rim as well as with the baby hook that she already possesses with the right hand. Her skill set has her in a position to be around the basketball as it comes off of the rim quite a bit. Learning how to keep the basketball chin high on the defensive end when it falls in her hands will only make it tougher for teams to keep her from being effective running the floor after tossing the outlet pass.
The Bottom Line
Obergs diverse skill set at an early age leaves her with a high ceiling of growth potential over the next year. Playing her second season of varsity basketball before she ever sees a day of high school should do nothing but assist that growth process. Her frame and style of play at this age puts me in the mind of class of 2009 ELITE 25 prospect Jasmine Hassell of Lebanon, Tenn. Hassell went on to have a quality career at the University of Georgia and has played professionally as well.
