After a long wait, South Carolina coach Dawn Staley and her staff finally secured the verbal commitment they were waiting for as No. 2 overall prospect in the ELITE 150, A'ja Wilson of Hopkins, S.C., decided to stay close to home and play in the SEC. Wilson, who picked South Carolina over Connecticut, North Carolina and Tennessee, is a 6-foot-4 forward with a ton of versatility to her game. She is probably the most versatile prospect in the 2014 class as her size and skill allow her to do a wealth of things well.

The addition of Wilson to South Carolina’s talented 2014 recruiting class has the potential to give the SEC school one of the top classes in the country. Wilson joins fellow McDonalds All-American’s Bianca Cuevas of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Jatarie White of Charlotte, N.C., in South Carolina’s 2014 class. When you look at the success that South Carolina just had this past season, the additions of the players that it adds and the stock for the South Carolina women’s basketball program is certainly trending up.

In adding Wilson to her 2014 recruiting class, Dawn Staley now has a queen on her basketball chessboard, something that despite the successes of previous South Carolina teams, the Lady Gamecocks have needed for an offensive punch that only an elite talent can provide. Look for South Carolina to instantly install a package of offensive plays for Wilson, who says she likes the big moments. With Staley’s projected roster there should be no shortage of those moments.

Going into Wednesday, the good money would have been bet on South Carolina for Wilson. Her size, skill, and athleticism give the Gamecocks a potential game changer and could also help in adding the pieces in 2015 to sustain the recent success as prospects get wind of Wilson being in Columbia, S.C., for the next four years.
