How Prospects Nation Grades Players

Below you will see the ProspectsNation.com base descriptions for each of the rating groups our evaluation team uses.

FIVE-STAR RATING

A five-star rating means we project this player has the ability to impact almost any program in the country early in their career. This player should contend for multiple All-Conference honors in their career.

FOUR-STAR RATING

A four-star rating means we project this player has the ability to impact most tournament-caliber teams. This level of player should contend for multiple All-Conference honors at the mid-major level while also being capable of making major contributions at power (or BCS) conference schools.

THREE-STAR RATING

A three-star rating means the prospect can play at any mid-major program and be a major contributor in leagues which typically have one NCAA tournament bid. Numerous players at this level will sign with BCS programs and we project those players to be role players whose production will be largely depend on fit in the system.

TWO-STAR RATING

A two-star rating means the prospect has qualities that are coveted at the Division I level. The production at the Division I level for this level of player will vary based on the role and if the player has a needed specialty skill.

ONE-STAR RATING

A one-star rating means we project the player has the ability to make a bigger impact at non-NCAA Division I level, which includes Division II (scholarship), III and NAIA (scholarship) basketball. These players may have some of the attributes coveted by Division I coaches as well and end up playing at that level but we project will make a more of a splash in the other divisions of college basketball.

ZERO-STAR RATING

Having a zero-star rating does not mean that the player is not capable of playing college basketball. Players with a zero stars listed have not been adequately evaluated at this time for our team to assign a grade.

RATING/RANKING PROCESS

Ratings and rankings produced by the ProspectsNation.com scouting team are based on in-person evaluations of the player at many of the countless events we attend in the United States, Canada and Europe. Grades and rankings are a collective effort of our staff and are projections do not take into account where the player ultimately commits to play. Because fit and style of play are so important to the production at the next level we instead focus on the player's potential and production against a comparable level of opponent. Players who play against a higher level of competition have a better chance of demonstrating the ability to compete at a higher level in college. Rankings are updated several times per year in the three oldest classes of high school, rising senior, junior and sophomore. Younger players will not be rated in the database until we offer our first ELITE 25 in their sophomore season.

Foreign born players who play at least two consecutive seasons in the U.S. are eligible for the ELITE 150. Foreign born players who are evaluated but do not compete in the U.S. will be listed in the international database prior to their first college season based on their birth year.
