Vanderbilt coach Stephanie White is having an excellent memorial day weekend. The second-year coach just added two ELITE 150 prospects to her 2018 recruiting class with the verbal commitments of Brinae Alexander and Jordyn Cambridge. Early Saturday morning, Alexander made a verbal pledge to the SEC school and just shortly after, Cambridge, a summer teammate of Alexander's, made her verbal commitment to coach White and her staff.
For Vanderbilt, this is an excellent start to the summer recruiting season. At 5-foot-11, Alexander is a wing that can stretch the floor as a perimeter shooter while also being able to use her size to score around the rim and post up smaller defenders. On the other hand, Cambridge stands out as one of a few pure point guards in the 2018 class, a class that lacks depth at the point guard position. The fact that both Alexander (Smyrna, Tennessee) and Cambridge (Nashville, Tennessee) are local is also a great sign for Vanderbilt as they are showing the ability to prioritize and keep in-state talent in Nashville.
In the 2017 class, Vanderbilt was able to secure signatures from ELITE 150 prospects, Autumn Newby and Chelsie Hall. Both Newby and Hall project to play right away for the SEC school. Up next for Vanderbilt will be trying to address a need in the post with a remaining 2018 commitment while they are still awaiting a decision from Notre Dame transfer Erin Boley.
