Udine, Italy -- The U19 World Championships kicked off yesterday with Team USA earning a 95-58 win in their opening round game against Mali. Team USA will continue their opening pool games today with a tough match up against a very talented Chinese team. Here is a look at the standout performers from day one.
Alecia Sutton 19 points 3 assists
Texas point guard Alecia Sutton set the tone Saturday pacing USA offensively and showing a great feel for playing in the halfcourt and creating scoring opportunities off the bounce and in ball screen situations. It was a great start for the rising Sophomore point guard.
Megan Walker 15 points 3 rebounds
Walker came off the bench looking to score the ball for the USA team. The incoming Connecticut freshman scored 15 points in 14 minutes on 50% shooting from the field.
Chennedy Carter 14 points four assists
Carter has proven to be a match-up nightmare for international teams as they are using the traditional combo guard as a forward on many occasions. She is proving to have the strength to hold her own against opposing forwards but there might not be another forward in this event that can match her quickness off the bounce.
