One of the best scorers in the 2018 class, Ahlana Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina, is headed to UCLA after giving coach Cori Close and her staff a verbal commitment during the July break. Smith, a 5-foot-8 guard, is in the discussion as one of the best one on one players in the class and projects as a scoring combo guard at the next level. During the Spring she proved to be instant offense off the bench for her FBC Team Hunt team, showing consistency and poise as an offensive performer.
Smith’s decision to pick UCLA gives them their second commitment for the 2018 class as Smith will join 6-foot-5 post Shaylee Harris from Redding, California. The combination of Smith and Harris together should put UCLA in the discussion of the top 25 recruiting classes in the country as we continue to update our early recruiting class rankings, headed into the end of the trail and on to signing day this fall.
