Chasity Patterson (Houston, Texas) - Cunningham MS - 2017

Patterson came out with her game blazing in the afternoon session. The 5-foot-4 point guard has speed in the open floor with a handle that allows her to create space. Her ability to read whether to take the floater or attack the rim is usually reserved for a point guard well beyond her years. Though she’s a smaller guard, Patterson does a good job of pushing the tempo getting ahead of the defense in transition.

Whether she grows or not, we look for Patterson to continue to develop as one of the Lone Star State’s top guard prospects in the class. Continuing to work on her outside shooting will be crucial to keep opposing defenses honest of her ability to penetrate and make a play. Keep an eye on her development as she’ll be with Cy-Fair on the club circuit.

SPOTLIGHT PLAYERS

Marissa Banfield (Friendswood, Texas) - Friendswood MS - 2017

Another bright point guard prospect, Banfield’s offensive game is based upon a combination of ball skill and shot making ability. Here she showed a willingness to distribute the ball first and shoot second. Given her slight frame, making good decisions with the basketball is going to be an important aspect of her development. On the other end of the floor, Banfield will need to be a vocal leader making sure that her teammates are on top of the defensive scheme that the game plan calls for.

Alex Coleman (McKinney, Texas) - Dowell MS - 2017

Coleman played both on and off the ball here showing that she has speed in the open floor and is a quality ball handler. She has a strong, compact build for a guard finishing well around the rim even using a reverse layup going in either direction to score. When Coleman receives the outlet pass, she pushed the ball ahead to allow her teammates on the wing to catch and make plays in the open floor.

AROUND THE RIM

♦ Alexis Johnson is a long, athletic forward in the 2017 class. Johnson showed that she’ll run the court and made good things happen on both ends of the floor.

♦ Class of 2018 forward Shae Routt was an impressive young forward. There were glimpses of potential greatness in her game during the camp. Her mother, Erica Routt, played college basketball at Texas so it runs in the family.

♦ Kayleigh and Kaylynne Troung are two class of 2019 prospects just getting started with their basketball careers but have already shown promise of two up-and-coming backcourt prospects.

♦ Keep an eye out for 2017 post Tatiana Wright. The young forward played hard running the floor from end to end and finishing on the break a couple of possessions as well.
