DUNCANVILLE, Texas DFW March Fest is always our first event of the club basketball season. Following our look at the upperclassmen that stood out, we take a look at some of the younger underclass standouts from the event.
Chasity Patterson (Houston, Texas), Cy-Fair 2017
This weekend was the breaking out party for class of 2017 point guard Chasity Patterson of Houston, Texas. The 5-foot-6 point guard played with a tremendous amount of poise and control this weekend while still managing to make highlight-like plays and score the ball consistently. As a point guard her ability to shoot the ball from distance is key. She forces defense to guard her beyond the 3-point line creating optimal court spacing and allowing her to attack off the bounce and create scoring opportunities for herself and others. Patterson plays the game with some flair as she has the ability to make the easy plays but can also create one of those wow moments where she breaks an ankle or puts a little something extra on a pass. If Patterson can continue to play at the level she did this weekend for the rest of the summer look for her to earn a spot in the ELITE 25 for the class of 2017.
Desiree Caldwell (San Antonio, Texas), San Antonios Finest 2018
A 5-foot-5 point guard, and the younger sister of UCLA signee Recee Caldwell, Desiree had a nice weekend showing that while she has some of the same talent as her older sister, she has her own style and flair for the game as well. However, Caldwell is still young and at times made youthful mistakes, but her skill set and acumen for the game is there and was easy to see throughout the weekend. Taking care of the ball, learning when to be aggressive and when to be conservative offensively is something the young point guard will have to develop, but for a player who has yet to play a high school game there is a lot to be excited about.
AROUND THE RIM
♦ Texas verbal commit Charli Collier will be a player to watch for years to come. The class of 2018 forward has a powerful body and a developing skill set. As Collier continues to grow and learn how to play the game she should be a force around the basket.
♦ Texas United had a talented 2016 team that played very well this weekend. Look for them to bolster the program in the upcoming summers.
♦ The young backcourt duo of 2016 Arleighsa McElroy and 2017 Alexis Morris for DFW T-Jack could prove to be special this year but certainly will be in summers to come. Follow @KeilMoorePSB
