Last week, Penn State coach Coquese Washington and her staff picked up a verbal commitment from 2019 wing Jayla James. A four-star prospect, James is the first member of the 2019 class to make a verbal pledge to the Big Ten program.
For Penn State, James gives them an athletic wing with offensive upside. James has excellent size for the perimeter positions and has the potential to be able to guard multiple positions throughout her college career. With as many as seven possible seniors departing Penn State's roster, there will be ample opportunity for James to step in and make an impact for Washington and her staff.
With James on the board, Penn State has a jump on what will be a large 2019 recruiting class. The addition of James gives Penn State another piece from the Team Takeover program as they continue to build a pipeline from the DMV area. In the 2018 class, Penn State added Lauren Ebo, a post player who played for Team Takeover, the same program that James currently plays for.
