The Cal Bears got great news during Thanksgiving week with the verbal commitment of McKenzie Forbes of Folsom, California. The 6-foot wing-guard gave her pledge after making an unofficial visit to the Berkeley campus.
Forbes, who is ranked No. 33 by ProspectsNation.com in the 2018 ELITE 100, chose Cal after home and campus visits with Baylor, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, Oregon, South Carolina Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA and USC.
Forbes is a strong, physical guard who can play all three perimeter positions. She’s an aggressive attacking player both in transition and in the halfcourt. This summer she showed great versatility, playing some lead guard and operating out of ball screen situations with success.
“It will be exciting to see what kind of impact Forbes can have at Cal,” Keil Moore, director of scouting for ProspectsNation.com, said. “She is a prospect that could help bring Cal basketball back to the Final Four caliber teams that they have had in the past. This is a great addition for Coach Gottlieb and her staff.”
Cal is known for consistently landing perimeter players with length and Forbes will add to that, joining a 2017 signing class that included 6-1 Alaysia Styles of San Diego, California, and 5-9 point guard Kianna Smith of Moreno Valley, California.
Forbes is one of 12 players ranked in the top 50 of the 2018 class who have verbally committed.
