Vitals
Name: Maddie Wright Grad Year: 2016 Location: Chattanooga, Tenn. School: Boyd Buchanan Current Position: PF/C Projected Position: PF/C
Strengths
Wright is a versatile post option capable of playing either the power forward spot or the center position. She can make the face up jump shot or score the basketball around the rim. Inside of the Elite Basketball Academy National Fall Showcase, Wright showed that she has a soft touch on her jump shot converting more times than not when she has an open opportunity. Her footwork has improved with each evaluation and she has become more of an offensive threat. Defensively, Wright is constantly in the mix for loose rebounds both on the strong side and on the off side. Her willingness to contest shots and do so without committing fouls is an important point to note.
Area To Improve
Going forward Wright can take another step in her development by becoming more comfortable finishing with her left hand in traffic. If the three-star prospect can take contact on her right shoulder and still make the basket with that left hand, Wright will watch her scoring numbers continue to increase. Completing the three-point play is a skill that her frame and quality free-throw percentage should allow her to do at a high clip.
The Bottom Line
With parents who both played college sports, Wright has both the bloodline and the understanding of what is expected of a productive college athlete already. Her motor is always running on both ends of the floor. Like most young post players, continued skill development will be essential for Wright as she moves forward but she is off to a great start.
