LISTEN TO BRANDON CLAY'S BCSDAILY PODCAST ON DUCHARME

Caroline Ducharme, the 6-foot-2 guard from Milton, Massachusetts, verbally committed to Connecticut.  The No. 23 ranked player in the 2021 class chose the Huskies over finalists Boston College, North Carolina, Oregon, Oregon State and Tennessee.

Ducharme complements last year's UConn 2020 class as well.  She bring the length and deep range that should allow point guard Paige Bueckers, ranked No. 1 in 2020, to have a favorite target and help space the floor for uber-slasher Mir McLean, ranked No. 11 in 2020.

Ducharme’s game is more than just shooting long range bombs.  First hand we saw her shoot from NBA distance and score off the bounce at will at the 2019 Check Me Out Showcase in Martinez, California.  It backed up her solid play with Exodus EYBL on the Nike circuit.

Ducharme is the third player to commit to the Huskies in 2021.  Ducharme joins 6-5 post Amari Deberry of Williamsville, New York, and 6-1 guard Saylor Poffenbarger of Middletown, Maryland.

CLAY’S TAKE

Ducharme brings a versatile scorer to the lineup in Storrs. With a projected roster full of diverse puzzle pieces, her presence gives the Huskies someone who can take advantage of catch and shoot chances at a 30-plus percent clip while also attacking off the drive too. Ducharme’s length, bounce and athleticism allow her to be a solid option on the other end of the hardwood as well. She is the type of prospect who is going to be the first one in the gym, weight room and recovery center for preventative treatment. Ducharme has all the intangibles that it takes to survive the sharpening of the iron that happens early in your career on campus in Storrs.
