TAMPA, Florida – The Candice Dupree Invitational hosted travel teams from all across Florida in one of the state’s top non-certified evaluation events of the Spring. This is a look at some of the standouts from the weekend.

Mary McMillan (Apopka, Florida), Tampa Thunder Claitt – 2020

McMillan changes speed with the ball in her hands as well as any point guard in the class. She is explosive off the bounce, has vision on the run, and is a defensive nightmare for opposing guards. She finishes well at the rim but can also knock down open looks from the perimeter and pull-up in transition too. Look for McMillan to have a big summer with the Thunder.

Jala Jordan (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), IMG – 2018

Jordan is a dynamic player on both ends of the floor for IMG. At 6 feet 2 inches, she brings a great deal of versatility to the offensive end, as she is comfortable attacking from the high-post, as well as posting up on the block. She is an elite level rebounder around the rim and defends well out on the wing.  Jordan had a series of possessions where she knocked down a 15-footer, had an athletic off-hand finish under the basket, and finished with an easy bucket running in transition. If the defender is slacking off at all, she will make them pay.

Hannah Pratt (Boca Raton, Florida), Boca Raton Thunder – 2018

Pratt is poised to have a big summer season with the Boca Raton Thunder. This 6-1 forward has pieced together a strong showing over the spring, showcasing new dimensions to her game. She has an added confidence that is evident in every possession she plays on both ends of the ball. Her ability to drive through traffic and finish with contact is much improved over the last year. Pratt is an active defender looking for opportunities to get on the floor or grab a rebound.

Yasmeen Chang (Naples, Florida), Team Dupree – 2019

Chang is an explosive offensive weapon for Team Dupree. Her first step is deadly and she has the ability to break down defenders from anywhere on the court. She looks to push the tempo from the point guard position and has good vision through traffic. Chang can pull-up in transition in the mid-range, blow past defenders, but she is also a willing passer as well. Her strength, athleticism, and speed make her an elite level guard in this class.

Around The Rim

The Florida Lightning are led by class of 2018’s Taylor Stelley (Kissimmee, Florida) and Chardell Jones (Orlando, Florida). Both players operate well with the ball in their hands and look to push in transition. Class of 2019 guard, Cayln Richardson (Orlando, Florida) knocked down multiple 3-pointers for the Lightning as well.

Class of 2019 guard Alexa Zaph (Palm City, Florida) was a steady contributor for the Miami Suns Team Larkins. She plays in rhythm, knocks down open looks and hustles after 50-50 loose balls. Raven White (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) was also active around the boards and operated well on the block for Team Larkins.

Blue Star Florida has a program full of talented guards including Morgan Beacham (Winter Garden, Florida). Beacham is a class of 2019 point guard with speed and skill in the open court. She impressed with her ability to finish in transition. Also from the class of 2019, Christina Kline (Ocoee, Florida) showcased her shooting touch as she connected on multiple shots from behind the arc for BSF.

Dyer joined the team at the end of 2012 and quickly made her presence felt as our in-house contributor for Peach State Media during all events and now as the Associate Editor for Prospects Nation. She’s been in the community as a columnist since 2008 and also serves on the Naismith Awards selection committee. Rebecca played college ball at both Kentucky and North Carolina.
