Addie Deal, the 6-foot guard from Irvine, California, gave her verbal commitment to Iowa on Wednesday.  The Mater Dei High School (Santa Ana, California) junior carries a five-star rating and is No. 5 overall in the ProspectsNation.com ELITE 60 for the 2025 class.

Deal is the second ELITE 60 player to commit to the Hawkeyes, joining No. 31 Journey Houston of Davenport, Iowa.  This duo combined with the 2024 signing class is showing what the post-Caitlyn Clark era will look like.

“I picked Iowa because I love their style of play - it fits me perfectly, I love their transition offensive, ability to shoot, and speed they play with,” Deal said. “I love the coaching staff and the culture that they have created. I’ve been on campus three different times, and the fans are truly amazing. I’m so grateful and blessed to be a Hawkeye.”

Deal started to emerge nationally following her freshman season at Pacifica Christian (Newport, California). This past club season she led the Cal Stars EYBL program’s 17U team in scoring across their 17 league games.  Deal’s game has really evolved into a real matchup problem for opposing defenses.  Her size and fluid athleticism gives her plenty of ways to score on the drive. But it’s her leap in perimeter shooting that has taken her game to new heights.  She saw a 10-percent jump in her 3-point shooting last summer, to just under 36-percent.

Deal’s command on the floor showed early in her career as she traveled to Denver, Colorado, to compete in her first Elite Is Earned CMO Showcase.  Being out of her region, surrounded by a wealth of talent, she made an impression with her playmaking ability.  Fast forwards nearly three years and her play at three different cities proved her game impacts any gym she’s in and that she’s a player that constantly seeks out competition to elevate her game.

Deal is currently the second highest ranked commit in the 2025 class, joining UCLA commit Sienna Betts of Centennial, Colorado. Deal made campus visits to numerous schools over her recruitment including Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Iowa State, LSU and Utah, among others.
