Four-star forward Jaida Patrick is headed to Duke. With Spring tournaments, home visits, official visits and a ton of verbal commitments the last few weeks at ProspectsNation has been a whirlwind. We got behind on some verbal commitments and recruiting news and in the next week, we will attempt to catch up. Here is a look at some ACC recruiting news and the first installment of our Commitment Round-Up series.
Jaida Patrick to Duke
Shortly before the July evaluation period, 5-foot-11 forward Jaida Patrick of West Haverstraw, New York, made a verbal pledge to Duke coach JoAnne P. McCallie and her staff. Patrick, who is a four-star prospect, picked the ACC school over programs from the ACC, Big Ten, and SEC. The versatile forward is a good fit for Duke as she has the length and athleticism to guard multiple positions and could play a similar role as current Duke forward Leonna Odom.
Moving forward look for Duke to be active with players at the top of the ELITE100. With Patrick in the mix, they will have the flexibility to recruit for talent and not for need with their remaining scholarships. Patrick is the first member of the 2019 class to pick the ACC school, but Duke could take two to three more prospects in this class.
Harrison Picks Wake
Wake Forest coach Jen Hoover and her staff received excellent news when four-star point guard Kaia Harrison of Baldwin, New York made a verbal pledge to play at the ACC school. Harrison, who ranked as the No. 86 player in the class of 2019, made official visits to Wake and Iowa State but had other programs involved in her recruiting process.
For Wake, Harrison is the first member of the 2019 class to make a verbal pledge to the ACC program. As a dynamic ball-handler who can attack defenses off the bounce while being trusted to make quality decisions in the halfcourt, Harrison will be asked to come in and give the ACC program a playmaking option at the lead guard position.
Wake’s 2018 class is rated at No. 56 nationally. The Demon Deacons have signatures from 6-foot-4 post Lindsey Jarosinski, 6-foot-3 post Christina Morra, and 6-foot wing Kaylen Dickson. With two traditional post players headed to Winston Salem in the Fall, look for Wake to aggressively recruit players for their backcourt positions in the 2019 class.
Around the Rim
Shortly after the April evaluation weekend, Miami earned a verbal commitment from explosive forward Brianna Jackson of Princess Anne, Virginia. With Jackson joining the Canes, coach Katie Meier and her staff now have two four-star prospects joining the ACC program as Jackson will join Yasmeen Chang as the second member of Miami’s 2019 class. The combination of Jackson and Chang puts Miami in a great place as they work to close out their 2019 recruiting class.
Clemson coach Amanda Butler added her first verbal commitment at Clemson this week when former Texas Tech signee Taylor Hosendove decided to sign with Clemson. Hosendove is a member of the 2018 class and will give Clemson depth on the wing and at the forward position.
