The week that follows the end of the July evaluation period is always an interesting one with new offers going out and players ready to accept them. Heres a look at the week that followed the July 2014 certified period.
Tania Lamb To Pitt
Right after the July evaluation period concluded, Pittsburgh picked up a verbal commitment from class of 2015 combo guard Tania Lamb, a 5-foot-7 prospect out of Norwalk, Calif. The addition of Lamb will give the ACC school a scoring-minded guard who can play quality minutes at both the point guard position as well as the shooting guard position. With the departure of current point guard Brianna Kiesel at the end of the upcoming season due to graduation, the Cal Sparks Gold product will fill an immediate need for coach Suzie McConnell-Serio and her staff.
With Lamb on the board for Pittsburgh, McConnell-Serio and her staff have a jump on what will most likely be a large recruiting class for them. With only seven scholarship players due to return for the 2015-16 season, Pitt will be looking to add depth and talent with its 2015 scholarships. Look for the Panthers to make a hard push for additional backcourt depth in addition to adding a couple of players to their frontcourt.
Kyra Lambert to Duke
Class of 2015 point guard Kyra Lambert picked Duke this week. Here is more on Lamberts commitment to the ACC school: Platinum Reax.
Jenna Allen Back on the Board
Jenna Allen, the 2015 post from Bedford, Ind., is back on the board after a coaching change at the University of Indiana. Allen, who made a verbal pledge to the Big Ten school in the summer of 2013, is a skilled post with the ability to make an impact on both sides of the ball. Her combination of size, basketball I.Q., and skill will make her a valuable target for schools around the country as the post position as the 2015 class is thin in the elite ranks.
AROUND THE RIM
3-Star Forward Perryman to Sienna:Katcia Perryman of New York, N.Y., picked Sienna this week and made the decision to stay fairly close to home. Perryman, a 6-2 forward, is an uber athletic prospect who should have an abundance of upside for the Sienna Saints as she is still learning the game and how to use her athletic ability to her advantage.
4-star Howell to UTEP: Class of 2015 wing Najala Howell of DeSoto, Texas, is staying in state and headed to the University of Texas-El Paso. Howell, a 5-9 wing with good athleticism, has the ability to get to the rim and pressure the ball on defense. Howell will be a nice fit on the perimeter for UTEP as she has the ability to play a number of different styles of play.
Friend To Boston U: Boston University picked up a verbal commitment from class of 2015 wing Hannah Friend of Troy, N.Y. Friend will give Boston University a skilled wing who can score the ball from the perimeter and make open shots to keep the defense honest.
Edwards To High Point: High Point added a nice piece to its 2015 class this week with the addition of 2015 wing Lindsey Edwards of Baltimore, Md., to its class. Edwards is a high-energy prospect who plays the game with toughness and physicality. Edwards, who also considered schools such as the University of Pennsylvania, has the potential to be an impactful addition to High Points roster.
Bucknell Scores Post:Maegan Mikkelsen of Woodbridge, Va., picked Bucknell over Winthrop this week. Mikkelsen is a 6-3 post with elite size and a developing skill set who should help bolster the front line of the Patriot League school. Mikkelsen was a key member of the Fairfax Stars Nike EYBL team this summer as she came off the bench and gave quality minutes in the post.
