LAKE FOREST, Calif., -- This was the first year for the Check Me Out Showcase in SoCal, a camp put on by Peach State Basketballs Chris Hansen in Southern California. This year we saw players from a number of states and even Canada attend the two-day event. Here is a quick recap of the events from day one.
Destiny Slocum (Meridian, Idaho), Mountain View 2016
Slocum is a powerful combo guard with the ability to create her own offense off the bounce in addition to running a team and getting her teammates quality shots. What was most impressive about Slocum today was her willingness to play the game with a high level of energy. Her play on the floor was effective and her energy was contagious. Slocum even brought her energy to the skills portion of camp, which helped raise the bar for other players. Slocum is one of the more talented guards in the 2016 class and with her willingness to work and continue to improve her game she should stay towards the top of that group.
Celeste West (Bakersfield, Calif.), Garces 2016
Throughout her high school career West has continued to develop her game and, as a result, has become one of the better post prospects in the class of 2016. At 6 feet 3 she has a nice combination of size and agility. She is big enough to protect the rim and make plays on the defensive side of the ball and offensively she has continued to develop her game, showing more and more comfort making plays in the post and finishing around the rim.
AROUND THE RIM
We had the chance to see Tana Driver and Najah Howell last weekend at DFW March Fest and both players were here this weekend at Check Me Out SoCal. Both players have continued to show well in numerous evaluations and are poised to have quality summers.
Class of 2015 point guard Kendall Perry had a strong showing today as she showed she can run a team and pick her spots to score the ball.
Mai-Loni Henson turned heads with her play on day one. She is a prospect with good size and a diverse skill set. Follow @KeilMoorePSB
