The Rankings Roundtable will cover several topics throughout this week on the recently released PropsectsNation.com ELITE 150 prospect rankings for the Class of 2014.

What theme or which player excites you most from the 2014 class?

Being the west coast native on staff it is exciting to see a high percentage of the best players from the left coast choosing schools closer to home. The pitch that only Stanford can make a Final Four from the Pac-12 took a hit with Cal’s 2013 season and several schools are making that count. Of California’s 19 ranked players in the 2014 class, 10 have already committed to Pac-12 schools, while only two have headed east. Oregon’s two ranked players are currently uncommitted but two of the three in the State of Washington have committed to Pac-12 schools. For the conference to improve beyond the Stanford stigma, this type of recruiting success is mandatory. Jordin Canada of Los Angeles, Calif., is ranked No. 4 and the UCLA verbal pledge marks only the second time in the last 10 recruiting classes that the West’s best chose a western school in the fall.

Matt Bollant landing his first top 25 recruit this year with Chatrice White of Shelby, Neb., is an exciting development in Champaign-Urbana. She is arguably the best post scorer in the class and will be able to step in immediately to play next year for the Fighting Illini. While Bollant and his staff were able to put together a solid recruiting class in 2013 in minimal time, the commitment of White will give Illinois a signature player to build around for the future. She will fill the void in the paint that will be left by the graduation of Karisma Penn this past year. Bollant, who had terrific success at Green Bay where he compiled a 148-19 record, hopes that White will be the key piece for getting the Illini to the top of the Big Ten.

We’ve called this the year of the point guard before and overall the talent at that lead guard position has the potential to make a lot of programs better next season. With 10 of the top 25 players in the country being point guards there is certainly a level of elite depth in the class, but there are also a handful of gems that can be found further down the list. We know how special Kelsey Mitchell is, as the No. 1 overall prospect in the country, her resume speaks for itself. That said players like Taryn Griffey of Windermere, Fla., at No. 101 and Breonn Hughey of Washington D.C., at No. 122 bring a lot to the table as well.
